Analysis of The Degree of Familiarity of The Ninth and Tenth Semester Students of the Uao Uniandes with Respect to the Use and the Results of the Teeth Whitening Treatment by Means of Hydrogen Peroxide

Abstract

Aim: Teeth whitening is a very popular dental treatment due to the quest to improve dental esthetics. To perform this procedure safely, it is crucial that dental professionals and students are well informed and trained in proper patient diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. Material and method: An observational study evaluated the level of knowledge of 123 dental students on the use and effects of hydrogen peroxide-based bleaching agents. The results showed that 11.6% had excellent knowledge, 41.5% had a good level of knowledge, 37.4% had fair knowledge, and 9.5% had unfavourable knowledge. Statistics and Result: It is important for students to understand the indications and contraindications, as well as the application techniques and the advantages and disadvantages of this procedure in order to minimize possible side effects associated with dental bleaching.
